How to Repair Evaporative Air Cooler

Evaporative air cooler work very well in hot dry climates such as the desert Southwest. They are less expensive than air conditioners and cost less to operate. However, evaporative air cooler do require more maintenance than air conditioners. Fortunately, very little technical expertise or skill with tools is required to keep an evaporative air cooler operating at peak efficiency. Trouble shooting an evaporative air cooler is a simple matter of identifying one of several problems. An evaporative air cooler has three main components: the water pump supplies water to the cooler pads to cool the air and the fan motor distributes the cooled air throughout the house.
Use a flashlight to check the fuse or breaker box if the cooler does not start or does not blow air. If the fuse is tripped or blown, either reset or replace it as necessary.
Determine where the problem lies if the air is not cool. If the air is warm, check the water pump to be sure water is circulating to the filters. Examine the filter pads to see if they are scaled over with mineral deposits, which inhibit the flow of air. Finally, check the water reservoir to be certain the float is keeping the water at the proper level to supply the pump.
Examine the fan motor if the cooler is not blowing air. If it is not running, the motor may need service or replacement . Also, examine the fan belt to determine if it is broken and needs replacement. The belt could also be too loose to turn the fan blades properly; the belt should be able to be depressed about an inch when it is pressed down upon with a finger about midway between the motor pulley and the fan blade pulley. If it is too loose, it will need to be tightened or even replaced if it is worn out.
Drain the water reservoir and scrub it thoroughly with a stiff brush and a solution of one cup of vinegar to one gallon of water. Also, check the filter pads to determine if they are scaled over with mineral deposits.

How to cool a house with evaporative air cooler

Evaporative air cooler --- or "desert cooler" --- use water to push warm air out through open windows to keep homes naturally air and cool. Evaporative air cooler cost about half as much to install as central air conditioners and use about one-quarter as much energy. Because evaporative air cooler provide natural humidity, they're best used in dry, desert-like climates.

   Instructions

Select the right size evaporative air cooler for the room or area you want to cool. Evaporative air cooler is rated by the number of cubic feet per minute (CFM) of cooled air that flows into a room. Typical models (from portable types to whole house duct systems) are sized from 3,000 to 25,000 CFMs. Figure out the cubic feet of the area you want to cool and divide by two to determine the appropriate size cooler you need.

Decide if you want your cooler to blow air into one or more smaller rooms (as in a central location installation) or to cool your entire house (as in a ducted system installation). Portable air cooler-- or horizontal-flow coolers --- are installed in a single window and are good for cooling one room or a small part of your house. Ducted systems are ideal for large homes with hallways and many bedrooms to cool.

Open window in different rooms and at varying heights to experiment with temperature and humidity levels. If your windows are open too much, you'll feel the hot air coming in and your cooler will operate less effectively. If your windows aren't open enough, you'll get more humidity than you bargained for. Close windows in rooms that aren't being used.

Maintain your evaporative air cooler so that it runs efficiently throughout the summer. Change the pads and filters at least twice during the cooling season. Check the pump and reservoir for sediment accumulation and clean it out regularly. Evaporative air cooler need to be thoroughly cleaned at the beginning of every season.

How to Clean an Evaporative Air Cooler

If you live in a hot, dry climate you know how important it is to keep your home cool in the summer. Evaporative air cooler, also known as desert coolers, lower the air temperature by blowing hot outside air over water. Cleaning the unit will keep bacteria and mold from growing inside it and infecting your home.

    Instructions
    ·  Turn off the power to the unit. Remove the unit's covers and open the drain valve.
    ·  Remove the filters and hose them off to clean them. Hose off all the waterways in the system. Run water through the bleed-off system and the sump.

    ·  Place the filters in the unit. Close the drain valve and open the water inlet valve Turn the unit back on.

    ·  Isolate the fan to only run inside the unit and not into your home. Make sure the pump is still running. Add 1/4 cup of bleach for every gallon of water in the unit.

    ·  Allow the unit to run for 30 minutes to disinfect it. Pour out the water and fill it with fresh water. Run the unit for 5 more minutes and replace the water again. The fan back on to your home.

How to install evaporative air cooler

Install an evaporative air cooler, so known as an desert cooler or swamp cooler, in your home to provide an energy-efficient cooling system. This type of system draws hot air from outside and cools it to a comfortable temperature. Then the evaporative air cooler pushes the air into the house. You can buy a regular system or a portable window system to install in your home.
Purchase a system of the size you need to cool the room. Calculate the volume of the room in cubic feet by multiplying its square footage by the height of the ceiling. Then divide this sum by 2. The result is the cubic feet per minute of air that the evaporative air cooler has to blow out. Choose a machine that gives the air flow rate you need. For example, if the room is 1,200 square feet and you have 10-foot ceilings, multiply 1,200 to 10 to get 12,000 cubic feet. Divide 12,000 by 2 to get 6,000. You require a system that has an air flow rate of 6,000 cubic feet per minute.
Set up the evaporative air cooler against the wall. It can be placed on the ground, mounted to the wall with support brackets or secured to the roof of your home. Create a hole in the wall using a jigsaw to cut through aluminum siding and wood, or a masonry boring tool to cut through brick or stone.
Attach the duct work to the system. In installing the pipes, run as many as possible straight to provide efficient air flow. Place a minimum of 2 elbow pipes on the line run. Join the pipes with sheet metal screws. Attach the duct work with vent collars between studs and joists. Install an outlet grille in the wall or ceiling.
Secure the water line of the evaporative cooler to the water tap line in the house. Seal around the duct leading outside with foam insulation. Run the electrical cord through the nearest window and plug it into a regular outlet. Open windows before operating the evaporative air cooler system.

What’s a Portable Air Conditioner?

The portable evaporative air conditioner is a common appliance for cooling indoor air in some parts of the world. Evaporative air conditions are also referred to as swamp coolers, possibly because of the humidity they add to the air.
    How It Works
As the name suggests, an evaporative air cooler cools air through evaporation. A fan inside the case blows air across water-saturated sponges or pads. The movement of the air across the wet surface causes the water to dry, or evaporate. As it does, the temperature drops, and cool air blows out of the fan and into the room.
    History
According to the consumer energy center, evaporative air cooling originated in Arizona during the early 20th century. Arizonans stayed cool at night by using fans to pull cool air through wet blankets they hung in their screened-in sleeping porches.
Portable Air Conditioner

    Where It's Used
Portable air conditioner are most common in desert regions, where the air is very dry. Evaporative air cooler needs dry air, because the water won't evaporate sufficiently in more humid environments.
    Pros and Cons
Evaporative air cooler use far less energy than other types of air conditioning. However, they can cause extreme humidity if the air in your home isn't dry enough to allow the moisture in the air to evaporate.

What Do You Think Evaporative Air Coolers Do

The name says it all evaporative air coolers cool the air. But,this machine is not just another cooling system. It has different roles to perform beyond cooling the air. If you are planning to buy an evaporative air cooler, it is best to know its specific functions so that you can decide if it fits for your needs well.
    Functions of Evaporative Air Coolers

1. Decreasing actual temperature
Evaporative air coolers work by drawing in outside air through moist filter pads. The air temperature  drops as the water in the pads evaporates. The cooler air is then released from the air vents of the evaporative air cooler.
    2. Reducing radiated heat
In a room, heat is radiated from the human body to the ceilings and walls. As the temperature rises in
the room, the heat is radiated back to the body.  Evaporative coolers prevent heat from being radiated to the human body through absorption of heat from the ceilings and walls together with continuous flow cool, fresh air.

Evaporative Air Cooler

    3. Eliminating air impurities
Evaporative air coolers have an added value besides cooling the air: they filter out elements such as dust and pollen from the air drawn into the fan. This is the  work of the moist pads in the cooler, as they trap the impurities while air passes through them. Thus, an evaporative air cooler is ideal for households with people suffering from allergy.
4. Freshening air
Evaporative air coolers promote constant air circulation into your room, so you can enjoy 100% fresh air all the time. In contrast, trad air conditioners re-circulate stale air in a closed room.

The Natural and Cool Breeze of an Evaporative Air Cooler

Have you ever tried standing on a beach while waves are crashing into shore? Or perhaps standing next to a crashing waterfall?  If you have experiences this already or can imagine doing so, then you know that this is the best way to cool off.  Nothing beats a natural cool.
It is pity! Most air cooler units in the market today produce very artificial cooling, very far from being natural. These types of systems usually employ chemical compounds to produce cool air. These compounds are actually very harmful to nature. But there is one kind of cooling system that is so natural that it is comparable to the misty crash of waves and waterfalls. These cooling units are called evaporative air cooler.
If you want a natural and fresh cool in your space, it is best to choose for an evaporative air cooler. Not only do evaporative air cooler give out a natural cool to an area, they also run with an environment-friendly system.  This combination makes this cooling system the perfect air conditioning unit for any nature lover. Not only will you feel comfortable with a natural and cool breeze, you are also aiding nature at the same time.
An evaporative air cooler works in a very easy way. It mainly projects cool water vapours to cool a surrounding area.  Depending on your area’s conditions, you can opt for direct or indirect evaporative air cooler. There are different types of evaporative systems so anyone can get a unit, regardless of the space they can spare or their areas conditions.
The evaporative air cooler is a great choice for everyone when it comes to space cooling. The best kind of cool is a natural one. Evaporative systems can give you this kind of cool, and at the same time, help you keep your planet alive.

How to choose the right evaporative air cooler

Evaporative air coolers offer a lot of benefits aside from cooling and humidifying air. These include cleaner air, more energy savings, and less money spent compared to trad air conditioners. However, you wouldn’t be able to enjoy these advantages if you make the wrong decision when buying an evaporative air cooler.
You have to choose the right air cooler carefully, lest you end up regretting your purchase later. Learn from the mistakes consumers usually commit when buying evaporative air coolers. For sure, these mistakes will give you an idea of what to look for as you check out every cooler on the catalogue.
   Mistakes Choosing an Evaporative Cooler
1.Picking the wrong size of cooler. Different coolers are created to suit different sizes of rooms or space. If your evaporative air cooler is way smaller than what is required of your room size, then its cooling effect may not be adequate. CFM ratings are an important consideration when choosing the right size of cooler for your room or home. The safest bet is to get any evaporative air cooler that is bigger than what your room needs.
2.Inadequate exhaust ducts. An Evaporative air cooler that lacks exhaust ducts may not perform as efficiently as another that has a good duct system for the exhaust. If your room does not have sufficient space for good airflow, then you must look for a cooler with an efficient duct system that allows warm air to be flushed out of the room.
3.Buying the wrong type of evaporative air cooler. Evaporative air cooler suits only dry climates where humidity is low. If you live in a very humid place, your evaporative air cooler may not work as effectively as it does in dry areas. Using an evaporative air cooler in a humid area causes only a small amount of water to evaporate, so the evaproative cooling ability may be poor. Also, higher humidity level speeds up corrosion, which in turn causes the parts of the evaporative air cooler to deteriorate.

Evaporative air Cooler: Finding the Right One for You

Evaporative air coolers are great options for your cooling needs. They consume a lot less energy as compared to a conventional air conditioning system. They also use little to no chemicals in  their cooling process, making them a lot safer for people. Also, they are very environment-friendly. You can choose from many different types of evaporative air cooling systems as a lot are made available for everyone in the market. But the reason there are many different types of evaporative coolers is because different coolers fit different situations.  One evaporative air cooler maybe effective in one area but can be damaging in another.
In order to find the right evaporative air cooler for you, you have to take several things into consideration. One important thing is to find out what kind of place the evaporative air cooler will be serving. Another is to know what types of people are living or working in the area to be cooled.
First, it is important to know what kind of place the evaporative air cooler will be servicing.  If the area will contain materials that are sensitive to water vapour or humidity, it is best to fit for a system that is not a big contributor to the two.  Most evaporative air coolers contribute a lot of humidity, but one in particular works well with humidity-sensitive environments? a two-stage evaporative air cooler.
Another thing to note is the sensitivity of the people working or living in the area to be cooled. Most evaporative air coolerg systems don’t have filters. But filters can be easily fit into them if needed.  If the people in the area to be cooled are sensitive to allergens, it is best to put a filter in the system.  This will not only keep them safe, it will also greatly improve the quality of air in the said area.

The kinds of evaporative air coolers

There are two kinds of evaporative air coolers. The first type is called the direct cooler.Direct here means that the ventilation comes into direct contact with the water. This is done by airwind pressuring moisture off of a water pad, or through fan misting. The second type of evaporative air cooler is called the indirect cooler. Here, a heat exchanger is used for cooling transfer to the ventilation. This makes it unnecessary for the ventilation to be in direct contact with the water.

evaporative air cooler
Evaporative air coolers like these are very common in the South. But relying on your climate, you might prefer one type of evaporative air cooler over the other. The direct cooler contributes quite to humidity. This is great for low humidity areas like highly-elevated locations or areas surrounded by desert. This is not so good for already-humid areas like hot coastal places. In this areas,an indirect cooler will be better.Whatever your space is like, there is an evaporative air cooler perfect for you.

Make a distinction between evaporative air cooler and traditional air conditioning

Evaporative air coolers are one of the most energy-saving, environmentally- friendly and affordable air cooling systems made available today. They are very low maintenance and are not so technical and complicated are traditional air conditioning systems. There are many kinds of evaporative cooling systems and they each have special functions that work well with different situations.Depending on the area you want to cool, you can choose one specific type of evaporative cooler.

Evaporative air cooler

In essence, all evaporative air conditioning work the same way.  They all employ cooled water vapour for space cooling.  Unlike typical air conditioning systems which use chemical-based refrigerants to cool the air, evaporative air cooler systems work as naturally as possible. The cooled water vapour is processed to moderate the temperature in you living or working space.  Evaporative air cooler systems are very energy efficient and, at the same time, safe for the environment.

How to distinguish the better evaporative air cooler

The best kind of cooling is one that is natural and not overdone. Most air coolings systems use chemical compounds in cooling the air, thus making the cooling very artificial. Sometimes this kind of cooling can come off as over-the-top because the atmosphere in your area becomes a bit too cold for comfort. The most natural cooling system you can opt for is evaporative air cooler. An Evaporative cooler is one of the simplest cooling systems in the market today. They employ water vapour instead of using Freon and other chemicals for space cooling. There are any types of evaporative coolers out there. Here are a few tips to find the right one for your living or working space.
Distinguishing the evaporative air cooler First, you have to take into account the size of the area you will be cooling. Your choice of an evaporative cooler should depend on the size of your space because some coolers can be bulky. If you have ample space, then that is good. You can choose any type of evaporative air cooler system. But if can’t spare much space for it, you can opt for a small direct evaporative cooler. You can also go for a misting fan, which can be mounted on the wall, saving you more space.

Another thing to consider when getting an evaporative cooler is what type of area it will be serving. You have to take note that not all evaporative coolers can apply to certain areas. For example, an office full of paper documents and computers cannot go with a misting fan because the big vapours will make it prone to damage. In this sense, it is better to use a two-stage evaporative swamp cooler as it contributes less to area humidity.

Why to Install Evaporative Coolers

If you are constantly worried with the rising electricity bills. you have a good reason to replace your air conditioner with aportable air cooler. The evaporative air cooler uses electricity 75% less than the traditional air conditioner. Moreover, the very cost of evaporative coolers is almost half the price of other modern cooling mediums. Another reason for installing evaporative coolers is the ease of installing it. They require an electricity of just 120-volt to operate and can be easily plugged into any outlet.
Evaporative air  cooler
If you are still wondering as why to install evaporative coolers, there are a few characteristic features that can answer your question. Moisture is added to the air by the swamp coolers that prevents wooden fabric and furniture from becoming dry. Moreover, the wet pads in the coolers prevent pollutants and pollens from entering the room. keeping it pollution and germ free. The small air coolers require very little duct system as they can be easily placed in windows and other places.

How to Use an Evaporative Cooler

At a time when efficient use of energy has become a worldwide concern, evaporative coolers are an
attractive means of staying cool when it's not so cool outside. When compared to standard air conditioning, these units require less energy and are also less expensive. Their only drawback is how they are described. They are evaporative coolers.

Instructions

  • 1
Investigate the energy efficiency of an evaporation cooler. Compared to a typical refrigeration form of air conditioning, an evaporation unit uses 1/10 to 1/3 the amount of energy. Evaporative coolers are definitely more efficient.
  • 2
Evaluate your cooling needs. Decide whether or not you need something as simple as a single room evaporative unit. This is basically the equivalent of a single room air conditioning unit except it is based on evaporative technology and has the same energy coefficient advantages. If a single room unit will suffice, consider options and purchase one.
  • 3
Decide if you home is configured for the use of a larger evaporative unit if a single room unit will not suffice. Basically, this has to do with whether ducting can be easily set up that will establish cool air flow and ventilation.
  • 4
Explore in greater detail the design and construction of evaporative coolers. Consider whether or not you want a one or two phase unit--two phase units are less energy efficient and more expensive but do not introduce humidity into your home.
  • 5
Consider the extra consumption of water that is necessary for the use of a unit. This factor is often forgotten relative to both cost and use of resources.
  • 6
Decide whether to use a ducted unit or a central unit. Compute the number of square feet to be cooled. Decide on the size unit that will be needed. Decide whether you will install the unit or have it done.
  • 7
Learn about maintenance of an evaporation unit--how it's cleaned, how it's winterized, and how its electrical systems are maintained.

Understanding evaporative air cooler

If you are from a coastal area you may not be familiar with evaporative coolers. The following are some guides for understanding them, and some tips for getting the most out of them.
·         Coolers don’t work well during humid times of the year.  Because coolers work by adding moisture to the air, above 50% humidity they just don’t work well. On those days you will have to run the A/C - if you have it. Also, don’t run the A/C and cooler at the same time. A/C’s remove moisture from the air, so the two will just be fighting against one another.
·         Open up some windows. Coolers work by air displacement - you must have enough windows open in order for the hot air to escape. A good way to tell if you have enough windows open is to turn the cooler on high and open your front door. Slowly close it until it is about 6 inches away from the door jam, and let it go. It should close gently on its own. If it slams shut you have too few windows open; if it doesn’t close at all you have too many open. Adjust them until you get the desired effect. Many people don’t like the idea of leaving windows open when they leave the house. In this case an attic vent will have to be installed - the windows can be left closed.
·         Regular service is a MUST - once a year at least. You may require servicing more often if the water in your area is very hard. A bleed off or cooler drainage system will reduce the mineral buildup in your cooler. They are not very expensive, and the water drained off by these devices doesn’t have to be wasted. Additional tubing can be installed so that this water can be used to water your plants and shrubbery.
·         White dust and a fishy smell are common complaints with coolers. These are the results of the minerals that are present in the water or organic matter sucked in during operation. These problems can be reduced with water additives and the bleed off devices mentioned earlier. Several old fashioned remedies, such as cider vinegar and fabric softener, can help with scale buildup and pad absorbency. And you would be surprised how far a cup or two of mouthwash will go in helping to freshen up a smelly cooler!
·         Don’t run “softened” water to the cooler. The chemicals used to soften water can aggravate scale buildup and even damage the cooler, which voids most warranties.
·         It is a good idea to turn the pump on for 5 minutes before starting the cooler fan. This will presoak the pads, and help reduce hot air coming out of the registers. There are cooler control kits available that will automatically wet the pads and cycle the unit on and off.

Evaporative coolers are common and perform well when the humidity is low. They are inexpensive to operate, which contributes to their popularity. Being aware of their peculiarities will save you undue stress and reduce the number of breakdowns. This short list should help toward that end. If you experience any problems, don’t hesitate to call.

why we make swamp cooler bigger size

Bigger size swamp cooler allows bigger volume airflow pass to come in contact with the water. The volume of air through the cooling pad affects the cooling capacity of the Air Cooler, depend on the evaporationg rate of the water. The volume of air also affects the ability of the Air Cooler to reduce the temperature of a room. How people feeling ?  As we known that there is always sweat on our skin, so it is the secondary cooling effect when air passed over people skin. People feels 2-3 more than the supply air temperature.

Telegraphic equipment how to save energy

Evaporative Cooling vs Computer Room Air Conditioning for cooling Data centres
Traditional Data Centre Cooling

Computer Room Air Conditioners (CRACs)  use a refrigeration system to cool air and pass it to the void under the raised floor.

Evaporative Cooling Free Air System
How are the savings achieved?
An Aolan cooler free air system provides a constant flow of attemperated air between 25°C and 30°C.  No refrigeration is used – the air is cooled by evaporative cooling when ambient temperatures are high and is heated by recirculation of air from the server exhaust when the ambient temperature is low.  No refrigeration is used as all of the cooling is achieved using evaporative cooling.  This results in energy saving in excess of 90% compared with traditional Computer Room Air Conditioners (CRAC’s)
1 – Fresh air is brought into the system though primary filtration and wetted filter pads
2 – Evaporative cooling operates during warm periods
3 – Low energy axial fan air distribution
4 – Patented control system controls air supply temperature
5 – Air flow is matched to density of cooling required
6 – Hot and cold aisle arrangement of racks is preferred
7 – Room is kept at a positive pressure
8 –Ceiling void can be used for exhaust path
9 - No exhaust fans are used to reduce complexity and energy use
10 - Hot air is exhausted to atmosphere
System Design
The air flow required of the system is dependent upon the total IT load and the server design.  Using a typical ΔT of 10C a single Aolan cooler  CREC can support a load of 35kW.  The systems can be either fixed or variable flow.
The low energy air distribution system uses axial fans which can accommodate most applications.  Where raised floors are used, the overall design, in particular the floor grill numbers and position, should reflect the pressure drops and rack cooling load density.
Most systems are controlled centrally.  This allows fully automatic control and identification of any fault conditions.
Server and IT operating conditions
The following must be taken into account when providing a cooling solution:
Temperature:  In Europe an Aolan Cooler  can provide 100% compliance against the latest ASHRAE[1] standards and meet all manufacturer environmental specifications. Some early main frame systems require close control and evaporative cooling is not suitable.
Relative Humidity:  In Europe an Aolan Cooler can provide 99% compliance against ASRAE allowable conditions.  Older equipment such as paper tape and magnetic tape systems are less tolerant and evaporative cooling is not suitable.
Dust:  The filter pads provide an adequate level of filtration for modern IT equipment with sealed bearings and closed drives.
Redundancy – The required redundancy is met using the modular system.

BENEFITS
The key benefits of using Aolan Coolers compared with conventional refrigeration based air conditioning are:

Cost

Where can Aolan Cooler be used?
Aolan Coolers require ducting from an outside wall or roof.  Modern data centres and server rooms can easily accommodate both data rack cooling and UPS room cooling.
1 – Aolan evaporative coolers are externally fixed
2 – Modular systems provide simple compliance with tiered redundancy levels
3 – Existing CRAC systems can be retained
4 – Air is supplied to the underside of the raised floor.
5 – Standby generators only have to support 10% of the electricity consumption of the CRAC systems.
6 – UPS rooms are cooled with simple ventilation systems utilising evaporative cooling
7 - Aolan Coolers are linked to all fire systems for controlled shut-downs.
8 – Typical roof mounted EcoCooler.
